Amsterdam is a wonderful destination for a city break where there are always plenty of things to do and events to join. The city is busy all year round, but the festive Christmas period of one of the best times to visit.
In this guide, I recommend a number of excellent hotels near Amsterdam Christmas Market and many other sights and attractions in the city centre.
Hotels near Amsterdam Christmas Market
There are a number of popular Christmas markets in Amsterdam, and not all of them are easily accessible or in areas where you might want to stay in Amsterdam.
The Amsterdamsche Kerstmarkt (Amsterdam Christmas Market) and Funky Xmas Market are both held in Westergas, around a 30-minute walk from central Amsterdam.
I wouldn’t really recommend staying near there, only because there are a limited number of things to do there in winter, instead, I would look into taking public transport to get there. Ask your hotel where to get the tram or bus.
On the other hand, the Ice Village is located at Museumplein near the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, Stedelijk Museum and other smaller museums.
The Ice Village has Christmas chalets and a large ice skating rink. This would be a nice area to stay, especially if you’re interested in visiting a number of these museums.
You might also consider the De Pijp neighbourhood, which is a very cool, hipster district and a 20-minute walk to Museumplein.
Or stay in the De Wallen neighbourhood, which is the historic centre of Amsterdam, where you’ll find all the lovely canals, Dam Square and many popular attractions. De Wallen is also the red light district, so keep this in mind when you book.
