Dresden has a number of excellent Christmas markets spread out around the city, with the Striezelmarkt on Altmarkt being the oldest in Germany. The other main markets are on Neumarkt in front of the famous Frauenkirche and down by the river towards Bruehl’s Terrace. When researching hotels near Dresden Christmas Market, we can assure you that anywhere in the old town close to these markets are conveniently located.
Hotels near Dresden Christmas Market
Most of the main sights and attractions in Dresden are in the Innere Altstadt, the Inner Old Town. This includes the pedestrianised areas around the Frauenkirche, west towards the Opera House and Zwinger and down along the Elbe riverfront area that includes Bruehl’s Terrace. This entire area is decorated with festive lights and Christmas decorations during November and December.
Crossing the Augustus Bridge over the River Elbe, you’ll arrive at the Neustadt, the New City that isn’t really that new. There are interesting sights on this side of the river with Dresdner Molkerei (a 19th-century dairy) being the highlight. There are a couple of lovely Christmas markets here too but the Altstadt has many more Christmas stalls and events so we recommend staying in the Altstadt area of Dresden.
Top Pick
Townhouse DresdenAddress: Neumarkt 1, Altstadt, Dresden, Germany
Not only is the Townhouse Dresden located directly on Neumarkt Square, the location of one of the main Christmas markets in Dresden, but depending on the room you have, you might be able to see the Christmas tree, lights and performances from your bedroom window. If you’re more interested in being near Striezelmarkt, don’t worry as this market is only two or three minutes away at Altmarkt Square. As for the hotel itself, it’s modern, very clean with large comfortable beds and friendly service.
Check AvailabilityHyperion Hotel Dresden Am Schloss
Address: Schlossstrasse 16, Altstadt
Very central location in the Altstadt, close to alll the main Christmas markets in Dresden. The traditional-style hotel rooms are spacious and clean. The spa is located in a historic stone cellar and features a sauna and gym.
Dill Apartments Frauenkirchenblick
Address: Neumarkt, Altstadt
Directly on Neumarkt Square in front of the Christmas market are the Dill Apartments. Apartments are great if you would like a little more space and privacy than you might get at a hotel. This large apartment has two bedrooms and two bathrooms but they have other smaller apartments listed if that is more suitable.
Ibis budget Dresden City
Address: Wilsdruffer Str. 25, Altstadt
If you’ve ever stayed at an Ibis Budget hotel before then you’ll know what you’re getting yourself in for. If you haven’t then be prepared for a very, very basic, tiny room. You’ll probably want to have an extremely comfortable relationship with your partner if there are two of you. If this doesn’t bother you, then the great things about this hotel are that it is the cheapest hotel in Dresden and that it is located directly next to the traditional Striezelmarkt. I have stayed here and survived, just.
Motel One Dresden am Zwinger
Address: Postplatz 5, Altstadt, Dresden, Germany
If you want a budget hotel in Dresden but can’t stomach the Ibis Budget, then the Motel One is a significantly better budget option. It doesn’t quite have the same convenient location and it is generally slightly pricier. It really comes down to how much importance you place on the location and your budget. There is also a Motel One over on Neustadt.
Romantik Hotel Bülow Residenz
Address: Rähnitzgasse 19, Neustadt
If you really want to be on the other side of the river in the Neustadt, then the Romantik Hotel is directly in the centre of this district near the Neustadt Christmas Market. This hotel has a traditional design, it’s a bit of a blast from the past really, but it gets excellent reviews. The Neustadt is a fun area of Dresden with cool cafes and some interesting bars. It’s a great part of the city so don’t feel like you shouldn’t stay here, it’s more that the Altstadt has more of a Christmas vibe.
